International workshop between Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU) and MARA University of Technology – Malaysia (UiTM)

On October 30, 2024, the Urban and Regional Planning Department, Faculty of Civil Engineering (FCE), Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU) in collaboration with the School of Built Environment, MARA University of Technology (UiTM) - Malaysia successfully organized an international workshop in room A0403, TDTU. The event focused on urban design aimed at sustainability and smart solutions, drawing participation from faculty members and students of the Urban and Regional Planning and Architecture programs of FCE, as well as international students from UiTM.
The workshop entitled “SHAPING URBAN FUTURE,” was vibrant and engaging, featuring three in-depth presentations that offered valuable insights and perspectives on sustainable urban development:
•    Lecture 1: “Prospects and Opportunities in the Built Environment Field”
Presented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Emma Marinie Ahmad Zawawi, UiTM.
This presentation focused analyzing the development prospects and opportunities in the built environment field, emphasizing the importance of innovation and sustainability.
•    Lecture 2: “Infusing Smart and Sustainable Elements for Placemaking”
Presented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yusfida Ayu Abdullah, UiTM.
The speaker shared strategies for incorporating smart and sustainable elements into public space design, focusing on solutions to enhance quality of life and urban efficiency.
•    Lecture 3: “Resilient Landscape for Park”
Presented by Dr. Le To Quyen, Faculty of Civil Engineering, TDTU.
The presentation introduced sustainable park landscape design elements, highlighting resilience to climate change and the preservation of natural environments.
Afternoon meeting with the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Planning and Architecture
In the afternoon, representatives from TDTU and UiTM met with the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Planning and Architecture to discuss opportunities for collaboration between the universities and governmental authorities. The discussion covered topics such as tourism planning, the development of urban centers, and the design of pedestrian walkways. Both sides emphasized mutual learning and the exchange of experiences in urban planning between Malaysia and Vietnam, aiming to develop future cooperative projects.
Outcomes and Significance
The events on October 30, 2024, marked a significant step forward in research and academic collaboration between TDTU and UiTM. The meaningful exchange of knowledge during the workshop and the discussions with the Department of Planning and Architecture laid a solid foundation for future joint projects and initiatives.
