TDTU Architecture Students Experience a Semester Exchange at National University of Kaohsiung, Taiwan

In Semester II of the 2025–2026 academic year, three Architecture students from Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU), namely Nguyen Cao Nha, Nguyen Phan Thuy Linh, and Tran Nhu Minh Giang, had the opportunity to participate in a one-semester exchange program at the National University of Kaohsiung (NUK), Taiwan.

The program provided the students with an opportunity to experience a new educational environment, explore different approaches to architectural learning and practice, and directly participate in design, model-making, project presentations, and project defenses alongside lecturers and students at the partner university. For Architecture students, the exchange semester was not only an opportunity to experience a different academic program but also a chance to observe, experience, and adapt to a new academic environment.

Sharing her experience, Nguyen Cao Nha said that her time studying in Taiwan brought many new experiences in both her academic and daily life. Exposure to learning approaches, working methods, and an architectural environment different from those in Vietnam helped Nha become more proactive and confident in communication as well as in her studies.

Throughout the preparation process and their participation in the program, the students also received support from lecturers at both universities, particularly with procedures, academic coordination, and adaptation to the new environment.

For Tran Nhu Minh Giang, adapting to the new learning environment also presented certain challenges at first. However, the enthusiastic support from lecturers at both universities, together with the friendliness of fellow students in Taiwan, helped Giang quickly adapt and enjoy a semester filled with memorable experiences.

In addition to professional knowledge, the exchange program helped the students develop their adaptability, independence, communication skills, and ability to work in a multicultural environment. Classes, project presentations, model-making activities, and interactions with international friends provided experiences that differed from studying in a familiar environment. Therefore, the exchange semester at the National University of Kaohsiung was not only an academic journey but also an opportunity for TDTU Architecture students to broaden their professional perspectives, experience an international educational environment, and acquire essential skills for their future studies and careers.
