Taiwan trip

The Faculty of Civil Engineering, Ton Duc Thang University, organized an architectural and urban planning study tour combined with an academic exchange program in Taiwan

The Faculty of Civil Engineering (FCE), Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU), organized an academic exchange trip to Taiwan from April 24 to 28, 2026. The program aimed to strengthen academic connections, expand opportunities for research collaboration, and create conditions for lecturers and students to directly access advanced architectural and urban planning models in the region.

A key highlight of the trip was the academic exchange activity at the National University of Kaohsiung (NUK). During the official meeting with representatives of the university, Dr. Le To Quyen and Dr. Hoang Thi Phuong Thao presented the topic “Introduction to Ton Duc Thang University and the Academic Programs of the Faculty of Civil Engineering.” The presentation not only provided an overview of the university’s educational orientation, but also emphasized TDTU’s strengths in architecture, urban planning, and construction engineering in the context of international integration.

Notably, the academic interaction between students from the two universities was vibrant and highly valuable. TDTU students had the opportunity to present their design projects to international peers, thereby improving their presentation skills and receiving diverse professional feedback. At the same time, observing the projects of NUK students also broadened their perspectives on design approaches, especially regarding urban and sustainable development issues in Taiwan.

Continuing the program, the delegation traveled to Tainan and worked with National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), one of Taiwan’s leading institutions in urban planning and construction engineering. During the trip, students also had the opportunity to visit and study the Green Magic School at NCKU – a representative model of sustainable and energy-efficient architecture in Taiwan. The project impressed visitors with its passive design solutions, optimized natural ventilation, use of environmentally friendly materials, and effective energy management technologies.

In addition to academic activities, the delegation visited and surveyed several outstanding architectural and urban planning projects in Taiwan. Among the most notable were the Taichung Opera House designed by architect Toyo Ito, the Taipei 101 Tower – a symbol of modern high-rise architecture, the Dadaocheng Historical District, and the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall complex, all of which clearly demonstrate the combination of traditional architecture and large-scale public spaces.

Through the study of these projects, students had the opportunity to directly observe urban spatial organization, infrastructure systems, as well as the interaction between modern elements and local identity in planning. These practical experiences contributed to enhancing professional knowledge and opening up new design approaches for both lecturers and students in their learning and research processes.

Through this recent study trip to Taiwan, the Faculty of Civil Engineering aims to further improve teaching and research capacity while expanding international collaboration networks, contributing toward the goal of training high-quality human resources in the fields of architecture, urban planning, and construction engineering in the future. In the coming years, the Faculty will continue to strengthen international exchange cooperation and organize more field trips for students.

The Faculty of Civil Engineering, Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU), currently offers academic programs closely aligned with the practical demands of the construction and urban planning industries, including:

  • Architecture
  • Architectural and Urban Design
  • Civil Engineering
  • Transportation Engineering
  • Urban and Regional Planning
  • Construction Management
