ESTABLISHMENT OF THE STRONG RESEARCH GROUP “SMART COMPUTING IN CIVIL ENGINEERING” (SCCE) – TDTU.

On the morning of April 18, 2025, Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU) solemnly held the announcement ceremony for the establishment of the strong research group “Smart Computing in Civil Engineering” (SCCE). The event was attended by members of the University’s Executive Board, leaders of functional departments and offices, along with numerous scientists, lecturers, and researchers. The establishment of the strong research group aims to promote interdisciplinary research and apply cutting-edge technologies to tackle real-world challenges in construction and infrastructure engineering.
The SCCE group is led by Dr. Tan Nguyen, Lecturer at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, and consists of the following core members:
•    Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Minh Tung
•    Dr. Phan To Anh Vu
•    Dr. Pham Anh Tuan (KTH – Sweden)
•    Dr. Tran Quang Khiem
SCCE focuses on the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), High-Performance Computing (HPC), and advanced digital modeling in the following areas: Optimization and simulation of construction materials and structural systems; Big Data analytics in civil engineering; Smart geotechnical solutions and offshore structural design; Climate-resilient infrastructure for sustainable development.
In his address at the ceremony, Dr. Tan Nguyen, Head of the SCCE group, emphasized that SCCE not only aims to publish high-quality scientific works in top international journals but also strives to integrate AI-based models into real-world construction practices—bridging the gap between academic research and technological innovation in the construction industry.
The formation of this strong research group affirms the growing reputation, ambition, and scientific capacity of the Faculty of Civil Engineering at Ton Duc Thang University, particularly in high-quality research, technology transfer, and human resource training. It also reflects the University's proactive contribution to the implementation of Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW dated December 22, 2024, issued by the Politburo, which calls for breakthroughs in national development through science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation
