The Faculty of Civil Engineering at Ton Duc Thang University participated in the final workshop of the international project TRAC at the University of Plymouth, United Kingdom.

On March 1, 2024, in the city of Plymouth, United Kingdom, Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU) and its member universities summarized the cooperative programs within the framework of the TRAC project (Tailor-made Recycled Aggregate Concretes) at the University of Plymouth, United Kingdom. The project involved participation from 5 universities: University of Plymouth (UK), Chalmers University of Technology (Sweden), Ton Duc Thang University (Vietnam), Phranakhon Rajabhat University (Thailand), and Shenzhen University (China). The project focused on research on the use of recycled materials in construction, within the context of circular economy and sustainability. The project was funded by the European MSCA-RISE - Marie Skłodowska-Curie Research and Innovation Staff Exchange (RISE) with a total budget of 450,000 euros.

The project has encouraged numerous collaborations and exchanges among participating universities, contributing to enhancing research capacity and relationships between partners. Several joint scientific publications among project members have been accomplished.

In addition to the project’s summary workshop, TDTU leadership had a working session with the University of Plymouth to identify new potential cooperative programs between the two sides. Accordingly, both parties agreed to implement bilateral cooperation programs in training fields, research collaboration, joint organization of international conferences, student/faculty exchange, etc.

Furthermore, the TDTU delegation visited modern research centers at the University of Plymouth in the field of renewable energy fields with practical models and simulations of offshore wind farms; maritime research centers with practical models simulating ocean activities such as waves, wind, currents, etc., serving environmental research, climate change, shipbuilding, offshore oil drilling, offshore wind power systems, etc. This is one of the leading research centers in the UK and Europe in renewable energy and maritime fields, combining training, scientific research, and enterprise cooperation to develop new products and technologies.

The University of Plymouth is a leading public research university in the United Kingdom, ranked in the Top 500 according to THE World University Rankings 2024. It is the leading research university in the UK in renewable energy, maritime, environmental, and health fields, with a total of 19,000 students. In particular, the university has been honored three times with the Queen's Anniversary Prizes for research and application achievements in climate change mitigation, zero carbon emission university campus, and teaching quality.
